Velma Joy Edith Bryant, 93, passed away peacefully on Friday 15th November 2024 at Stanway Green Lodge Residential Care Home, where she had been looked after and cared for, for the last 2 years.
Born on 22nd July 1931, Velma was very well known in the Lexden Community where she lived all her life. Her parents were Olive and Leslie Brown, and she had two younger brothers, Doug and Graham Brown, who have sadly both passed away.
She was married to Charlie Bryant, a well-known local loveable character, and was a devoted mother to her only daughter Tracy and Grandma, to her two fabulous grandsons, Oliver and Charlie.
Velma was a bookkeeper (she loved figures) working at Kent Blaxill Builders Merchants, Ellisons Solicitors and Collins Carpets which was in Colchester High St.
Velma was a kind, sweet lady who is probably well known for being the ‘Avon Lady’ of Lexden for many years and would often be seen walking around the area, with her shopping trolley delivering Avon to friends. She did enjoy the chit chat that came with delivering the items to her friends and customers.
Velma began to get more involved with St Leonard’s Church, Lexden, when sadly Charlie passed away in 2012. The Church was a comfort for her, keeping her socially involved with the community.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Velma’s “Celebration of Life” will take place on Monday 2nd December at 1pm, at Colchester Crematorium, followed by a service at St Leonard’s Church, Lexden at 2.30pm. Please feel free to attend either or both services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St Leonard’s Church, Lexden, a big part of Velma’s life.
