All of these hospices are friendly, welcoming places, staff don't wear uniforms and families are encouraged to treat the hospice as a home-from-home. Care at end of life isn't the only service they provide, many of the children and young people accessing their services are extremely active but need extra support and care.

They offer a holistic and family-centred approach to care ensuring that children, young people and their families' needs are met, whether physical, emotional, social or spiritual.

Care can be delivered in the family home, at hospital, in the community, at one of their three hospices, or a combination of all three, depending on the family's and child’s preference.

Care and support is provided by qualified nurses, clinical nurse specialists, counsellors, care assistants, play specialists, music therapists, art therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, a psychologist, spiritual care advisors, chaplains, chefs and housekeeping staff, and a consultant nurse. Occasionally they have students working with them under supervision. 

Medical services at home continue to be provided by the family's GP and at the hospice by the local GP service.

The care team liaise with other professionals involved in supporting each child, such as medical consultants, community physiotherapists and schools.
