Dementia Uk

Dementia is an umbrella term for a range of progressive conditions that affect the brain. There are over 200 subtypes of dementia, but the five most common are: Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies, frontotemporal dementia and mixed dementia.

The brain is made up of nerve cells (neurones) that communicate with each other by sending messages. Dementia damages the nerve cells in the brain so messages can’t be sent from and to the brain effectively, which prevents the body from functioning normally.

Regardless of which type of dementia is diagnosed and what part of the brain is affected, each person will experience dementia in their own unique way.

Dementia can affect a person at any age but it is more commonly diagnosed in people over the age of 65 years. A person developing dementia before age 65 is said to have young onset dementia.

There are over 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK and this is set to rise to over one million by 2021.

The Rescue Trust Of North West Golden Retriever Club

Rescue

Through our Rescue Trust, the North West Golden Retriever Club provides a dedicated service for the rescue and re-homing of goldens, so if for any reason your circumstances mean you need to re-home your golden retriever, we will do our very best to find it a good home.

We have rescued over 100 golden retrievers in the last few years and we are pleased to say that not one of them has had to be kenneled. They are collected and re-homed on the same day, going directly from home to home, as our aim is to be sure there is as little stress as possible. Every golden is carefully matched to their new owners, taking great care to find them a loving home where they will be cherished and have companionship for most of the time.

Re-homing

Finding the right home for a rescued golden is our main concern and we take time through home-checks to be sure that new owners can provide the love and care needed for the rest of their lives. Our dedicated care for the breed means we are always looking for good homes for golden retrievers, especially older ones, which for various reasons need re-homing.

Our dedication and care for the general wellbeing of golden retrievers continues after they have been re-homed. Our rescue trust assists the new owners, especially for older goldens, with contributions towards any veterinary medical costs that may occur in the future.
