Mrs Dorothy Argent

Dot on holiday.jpg

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dorothy Lilian Argent, 90, of Collier Row, who died peacefully at Queens Hospital on 9th July 2025, surrounded by love. Dorothy was born on 4th September 1934 in Camberwell.

Dorothy was the heart of our family - the kindest person who lit up the room with her warm smile and infectious laughter. She had a way of making everyone feel loved, whether it was through her gentle words, her steady presence, or simply the way she would hold your hand and smile.

Family meant everything to Dorothy. Her happiest moments were those spent surrounded by loved ones — sharing stories, laughter, and the simple joy of togetherness. She brought smiles to every gathering, and created memories we’ll treasure forever.

A true adventurer at heart, Dorothy embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. She found joy in skiing down snowy slopes, camping in the Commer and Volkswagen camper van, and going on spontaneous adventures — always eager to explore the world.

A devoted cat rescuer, Dorothy’s home was a sanctuary for every stray who crossed her path. She taught us compassion through her actions.

She found beauty in the simply things, whether it was going to the charity shops or gardening. She loved weeding, listening to music - more often than not, a song by Tom Jones or Elvis Presley, with a glass of wine always in her hand.

She is survived by her three children, William (Linda), Susan (Husband - Peter), and Robert, her brother Harold (Wife -Anne), her two Grandchildren, Sarah, Tom and Great Granddaughter, Isla-May, and countless others whose lives she touched.

Although she will be deeply missed, her kindness and love will remain forever in our hearts. We take comfort in knowing that she is with her Husband William, who she loved dearly and her legacy lives on in every smile, every laugh, and every adventure we take.

A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at Parndon Wood on 8th August at 2pm.

Dementia Uk

Dementia is an umbrella term for a range of progressive conditions that affect the brain. There are over 200 subtypes of dementia, but the five most common are: Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies, frontotemporal dementia and mixed dementia.

The brain is made up of nerve cells (neurones) that communicate with each other by sending messages. Dementia damages the nerve cells in the brain so messages can’t be sent from and to the brain effectively, which prevents the body from functioning normally.

Regardless of which type of dementia is diagnosed and what part of the brain is affected, each person will experience dementia in their own unique way.

Dementia can affect a person at any age but it is more commonly diagnosed in people over the age of 65 years. A person developing dementia before age 65 is said to have young onset dementia.

There are over 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK and this is set to rise to over one million by 2021.
