Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition. This means that it causes problems in the brain and gets worse over time.
The number of people diagnosed with Parkinson's in the UK is about 145,000. That's around 1 adult in every 350.
People with Parkinson's don't have enough of the chemical dopamine because some of the nerve cells that make it have died.
There are lots of different treatments, therapies and support available to help manage the condition.
Our researchers are working hard to develop new and better treatments - and one day a cure.

Although, most unfortunately, I cannot claim to have known Alan well, owing to the infrequency of the occasions, principally at (former) District Meetings and social events, when we did have the pleasure of conversing at reasonable length, I formed a very favourable impression of the gentleman and committed Oddfellow that he truly was. May your soul rest in eternal peace, Alan. Your magnificent record will definitely stand the test of time.

Such a lovely man and you were such a good team, Pat. The epitome of Odddfellowship, I couldn't have had a better introduction nor better nurturing. Parkinsons is such a wicked disease, at least you are now free of it, Alan, but Pat will miss you so much. Pat, wishing you health and strength and lots of love. Kate
Ms Kate Collins
To Pat and family, I will always consider Alan as a great mentor of mine. Not the tallest, but he had the furthest reach; in knowledge, compassion and kindness.
