Dementia Uk

Dementia is an umbrella term for a range of progressive conditions that affect the brain. There are over 200 subtypes of dementia, but the five most common are: Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies, frontotemporal dementia and mixed dementia.

The brain is made up of nerve cells (neurones) that communicate with each other by sending messages. Dementia damages the nerve cells in the brain so messages can’t be sent from and to the brain effectively, which prevents the body from functioning normally.

Regardless of which type of dementia is diagnosed and what part of the brain is affected, each person will experience dementia in their own unique way.

Dementia can affect a person at any age but it is more commonly diagnosed in people over the age of 65 years. A person developing dementia before age 65 is said to have young onset dementia.

There are over 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK and this is set to rise to over one million by 2021.

Messages of condolence

In fond memory of Ron, a very astute and kind man! We met Ron & Val on holiday in 1978 in Poros and have kept in contact ever since. It was a lovely fun-filled week and we have such good memories not only of the holiday but of times shared since. We send our love to Val, Amanda and Lucy and families at this sad time. xx Rob, Jill, Chris & Andrew

Mr & Mrs Robin March

A wonderful friend and neighbour to Vera and I.

Mr Ken Tyack

Ron and family lived next door to us in Sawbridgeworth in the 1970's. I have really super memories of growing up there and all the fun times we had as children with Amanda and Lucy. You were the best next-door-neighbours! Even when you moved up the road, the social events continued and I know my parents, Ken and Vera, had many wonderful times with Ron and Valerie. Ron was most entertaining and a great character and us Tyack's remember him fondly. With love and best wishes, Rachel x

Mrs Rachel Tole

Sincere condolence to the Woodhead family. Ron was a true gentleman and I have wonderful memories of living next door (and later up the road) to the Woodhead’s in the 70/80’s. One time I remember Ron very kindly arranged for me to play a game of Darts against the great ‘Crafty Cockney’ when I was a young boy, this was in front of an audience in Harrods! A truly memorable experience that reflects Ron’s kind spirit and one I’ll never forget. My thoughts are with you (Valerie, Lucy, & Amanda) at this sad time, but Ron’s memories are never forgotten, a simply wonderful man (treble-twenty every throw)!

Mr Dan Tyack

I'm sorry for your loss, Amanda, and send warm wishes. Satomi
