HILLS, Eleanor Shirley (nee Jones) – passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at the age of 88 years.
Eleanor Hills, of Braintree, Essex, daughter of Kenneth Roy Jones and Jennie May Jones (nee Horricks), beloved wife of 53 years to Derrick Hills. Proud and wonderful mother of Kenneth Hills (Lisa Lo Conte), Tewksbury Massachusetts, and Robert Hills (Mairi Parsons), Didcot Oxfordshire. Grandmother, to Alexander, Ana and Elliot.
After marrying Derrick, Eleanor relocated from Canada and worked as an X-Ray Technician in Epping before becoming a full-time wife and mother to the two boys.
She was also an active member of the local community including being a member of the WI, volunteering at the baby clinic and St Clare Hospice. She enjoyed socialising and entertaining, especially over a good cup of tea. She also loved baking, playing the piano and quilting when she had the chance.
Eleanor and Derrick were congregants at the David Livingstone United Reformed Church. On moving to Braintree Eleanor and Derrick attended Ecumenical Services at The Church in Great Notley.
Respecting Eleanor’s wishes, a memorial service will be held on Tuesday 2nd February 2021. In lieu of flowers Eleanor has asked that as an expression of sympathy, donations be made to St Clare Hospice.

My sincerest condolences at the passing of your mother and grandmother, Eleanor. I will never forget her kindness and generosity to us as we made our way through England. She truly took us in and was our Mother Goose, and will be missed.
Mrs Lisa Wicklund Whiteside
I am so lucky to have had such a loving and supportive Godmother. I will remember all those Christmas Day visits to her house, her fabulous marshmallow crispy cakes and her teaching me the ‘Beans, beans the musical fruit’ rhyme!! Not to mention the diplomacy she exercised each time when driving my brother and I home, stopping off in a lay-by half way in order to let us swap who was sitting in the front seat of the car! Such happy memories of a truly kind lady that had such a spark for life. I will hold her and Uncle Derrick dear forever.
Mrs Libby Binks
